OnS develops advanced and highly innovative coating technologies that enhance systems used for energy conversion and transfer. OnS coating technologies enable electrolysers and heat exchangers to be made smaller, lighter and more efficient – and at lower cost. 

Founded by world-renowned scientists in 2012, OnS has invested over ten years in developing and optimising its ground-breaking coating technologies. Backed by proven, successful investors from the Oxford technology community, OnS is based on Abingdon Business Park.

Our Story

OnS develops advanced and highly innovative coating technologies that enable electrolysers and heat exchangers to be made smaller, lighter and more efficient – and at lower cost. Our mission is to drive improvements in the cost and environmental impact of systems for energy conversion and transfer.

Founded in 2012 based on an invention made by a leading scientist from the University of Oxford, OnS has been researching, developing and optimising its coating technologies for a number of years.

A new round of investment in 2018 resulted in a move to a new facility in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, allowing expansion and development of our wet and thermal labs. OnS installed and commissioned a pilot production plant in 2019.

As the world faces the urgent challenge of reducing carbon emissions, the need for efficient and sustainable energy solutions has never been greater. At OnS, we are committed to accelerating the transition to a clean energy future by developing advanced coating technologies that enhance the performance and durability of alkaline water electrolysers. Responding to the rapid growth of the hydrogen economy, our innovative coatings enable electrolysers to produce hydrogen more efficiently, making it more accessible and affordable as a source of clean energy.
