The Role:

We are currently looking for an Engineering Technician.

Working within the Engineering department, you will be responsible for operating various heat exchanger testing systems and will liaise closely with other team members to build new and optimise current test and process facilities.

With world-wide use of air conditioning and other energy-hungry cooling systems growing year on year, the demand on global generating capacity is becoming significant. Today, cooling systems alone emit 7% of total GHG and consume 17% of worldwide electricity, numbers projected to double by 2030. New technologies are urgently needed to reduce the impact of these systems.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will be educated to A Level standard or HNC/HND/FdSc in a relevant engineering discipline.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate existing heat transfer testing systems, collect/process data and analyse data.
  • Work closely with the company’s technical/science staff in the pre- and post-processing of the heat exchangers coating processes.
  • Undertake, refrigeration training courses to gain additional appropriate skills/qualifications.

Skills and Experience:

  • Practical knowledge of mechanical engineering, including machine/workshop techniques.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and initiative to work without supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, electronic, verbal and written.
  • Able to maintain client and business confidentiality.
  • Ability and willingness to communicate and work closely with colleagues.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Experience in the design and operation of both single and two-phase heat transfer systems and fluid pumping systems.
  • Previous work experience with pressurised gasses would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is essential. Other engineering software, Autodesk/Solidworks would be desirable, but not essential.
  • Basic electrical knowledge desirable.

The Role:

We are currently looking for a Chemical Technician. The role will involve.

  • Maintaining and operating specialised instrumentation and laboratory equipment.
  • Developing equipment protocols and assist with repairs as required.
  • Supervising the use of laboratory equipment, provide assistance and training, monitor and provide support for calibration and service contracts for agreed equipment.
  • Monitoring and ensuring the correct storage of chemicals, waste and other specialist materials in accordance with C.O.S.H.H. (maintaining records where required).
  • Carrying out individually small projects when required by the company

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will be degree qualified in a related Chemistry or Materials discipline.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Routine analysis of solutions used in the Company pilot plant
  • Responsible for stock chemical ordering, dispensing, storage and safe disposal.
  • Responsible for the service and calibration (including record keeping) of laboratory equipment and maintenance of warranty / service records. Ensure that these procedures are documented through a quality management system to comply with ISO-9000.
  • Assist in teaching laboratory preparation and in demonstrating practical skills and techniques to undergraduate students.
  • Assist in the coating of large components using R&D plant
  • Ability to conduct thorough research and document findings in well-organised manner quickly and efficiently.
  • Operating, developing, troubleshooting and validating of analytical methods

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in Analytical Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry required.
  • A research degree (BSc / MSc) is required, though consideration will be given for relevant experience.
  • Experience in electrodeposition techniques beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills.

The Role

We are able to offer a 12-month placement for an Analytical Chemist studying for a degree in Chemical Sciences. The post holder is expected to have a strong interest in surface chemistry, electrochemistry and coatings. The role will include the development of novel micro-scale coatings for the improvement of heat-exchanger performance.

  • Development and implementation of methods for analysing electrochemical Processes.
  • Performing routine analysis of electrochemical solutions
  • Designing procedures and experiments to provide thorough laboratory simulation of largescale coating processes to assist performance evaluation of developmental products.
  • Working closely with the company’s technical/science staff in identifying and exploring opportunities to innovate development using range of materials.
  • Leverage experiences and technical ‘know-how,’ skills, and techniques from external sources.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research and document findings in well-organised manner quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to write scientific reports of laboratory experiments

Skills and Experience

  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team of scientists, engineers and commercial people.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal.
